Oil palm, the species Elaies guineensis exist in fruit forms namely Dura ( D) . Tenera ( T) and Pisifera(P) .
The Dura fruit has a thick shell (20- 50%) and hence giving lower oil extraction. The Pisifera fruit though
is shell-less is generally female sterile (bunches are abortive). The combination of Dura and Pisifera ( DxP )
results in Tenera ( T) fruits which have thin shell and higher oil extraction. Furthermore, yield is enhanced
as illustrated by the below example.

By theory alone, yield is already increased in addition to higher oil extraction. Nevertheless, the selection of superior or elite Dura (mother palm) and Pisifera (pollen source) is what makes the difference between the handful of reputable DxP oil palm seed producers. Generations of stringent selection of SEU's planting material has resulted in highly uniform planting material. Moreover, SEU has also set higher standards for the selection of mother palms. A comparison between SIRIM and SEU's qualifying requirement with regards to the mother palm and progeny (offspring) performance is given below:

  SIRIM MS157 Seu's Standard Supra's Standard
Minimum Dura Yield 160kg 180kg 250kg
Oil to Bunch 16% 18% 18%
Oil Yield /Palm 25.6kg 32.4kg 45.0kg
Minimum Progeny Yield 160kg 180kg 250kg
Oil to Bunch 24% 27% 27%
Progeny Oil Yield/Palm 38.4kg 48.6kg 67.5kg
Minimum Kernel Yield 3% 5% 5%
Oil Yield /Ha (136 palms) 5.22 tons 6.61tons 9.18 tons
