Higher Density Planting
The leaf area of some of the mother palms after 10 years is just around 9.5 m2.
The optimal density can be derived from the following formula:
Optimal density = 2241 + 36.7 x 2.47
Mean area per leaf
= 2241 + 36.7 x 2.47 = 152 palms

Therefore, selected SEU planting material can be planted at a higher density as compared to the conventional 136 palms/ha. The planting terrain and soil fertility would however also need to be considered before embarking on any higher or lower density planting.
